Taux : - After years of radar detectors stuck to the windshield the Whistler Fuzion makes for really neat and clean installation. I have found it to be user friendly and more sensative than tradition "windsheild" mounted detectors. Installation is straight forward however, I would not recommend someone attempt this that is not comfortable with vehicle work. On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being stick it to the windsheild and plug it in & 5 being removing engine) this would be a 2.

Taux : - Since getting this radar detector over 2 years ago i have not had one ticket. I've also slowed down just a bit, but still have a lead foot. This detector has picked up police over 2 miles away and even over slight rises in the road. it's a load of money for a detector, but it's been invaluable to me on my 160 mi/day trip. Escort is definitely the PRIMO manufacturer of detectors! Other people have talked about false alarms... yes there are a few, but i'd rather be alerted to a false alarm than receive a TICKET... and the false alarms are not bad... TURN IT ON CITY.

Taux : - Escort X50 is plagued by false alarms on the Laser and Pop channels. Please borrow a friends and test in your car first. I have tested in 4 different cars and everything from the horn to the turbo charging spooling up will cause this thing to go wild. I tried working with Escort to resolve problem but they wanted 65 dollars to place foil over the sensor to (Dumb down my detector). I've already given to much money to escort.

Taux : - I own the 8500 and bought the x50 for my fiancee and we just returned from a 1000 mile trip through some of the most tenacios states for radar traps and I have to say that the x50 was a great DISAPPOINTMENT especially for the hefty price tag. Operating both units side by side for the entire trip my 8500 performed as well as the x50. That is to say that the x50 despite its claims did NO BETTER or no worse than my 3 year old 8500 unit. Both units have the same features with the exception of POP which is not in wide spread use as of this posting. Unless you are color blind or must have a blue display then go with the x50 otherwise save a few bucks and get the 8500 or keep the dough in your pocket and stick with your current 8500 until Passport comes out with a unit that is worthy of its price tag. I gave it one star because I feel cheated by the hype passed down by Passport and the radar detector review boys who I think are compensated by the manufacturers for their supposed unbiast reviews. "I love my 8500"

Taux : - In A word the Passport 8500 is awesome. I picked it up for a road trip across the southern USA. I tested it out around Los Angeles and got a few false alarms but I also found a few motor cops hiding. We hit the road for 5 weeks and did not get a single ticket. The unit was easy to use and we quickly learned the signal types. We spotted police units approaching from behind; we were alerted to POP before it was too late. It even caught a frontal blast of Laser, I jammed on the brakes and saw the police car in the center divider, no ticket. The X band went off for every construction zone but that was to be expected. Overall it spotted all radar traps and saved us a lot of money. I would never drive across the country without this unit. Worth the price.

Taux : - After driving for ~2 weeks with both x50 and Valentine One I am
keeping x50 and Val1 will go back to the vendor.

Besides the price differential, x50 offers better pop protection,
is less sensitive in the city driving and offers more up-to-date
interface.

On the other hand it lacks arrows and back window radar (it does
have a back window laser detector, which is not the same as a
full fledged radar that Valentine 1 has patented).

Arrows could come very handy, but this alone does not
justify the ~$120 difference between otherwise very similar
products.

Other than that, both units are very accurate compared to some
other detectors that I've tried. The noise level in the city
driving could get excessive, thankfully x50 comes with a very convinient mute button right on their "smart cord" power supply.

I am deducting a star for the lack of a carrying case,
as less expensive units come with carrying cases out of the box
I was expecting x50 to provide this accessory as part of the
product, not a separate purchase.

Taux : - I like this product and the battery pack works great! The price is about $30 more so both for $129 is a good deal. I also looked at another similar product but it was much more expensive. So far so good, it beeps everytime I get close to one of those pesty red light cameras!

Taux : - Where I live they have alot of these speed cameras and this product is great! It works exactly as advertised and beeps when I'm near one of them. I saw a demo video on YouTube and watched it. You have to search for "GPS Angel". Comes with a power cable that plugs into your cigarette lighter or you can charge up the battery for about 8 hours. Taux : - The features sound cool but would be really impressive if they worked. This detector WAS going to replace my old passport, however, I'm thinking not. The range on it is terrible, I read a review elsewhere stating that the only thing this detector will do is let you know you have a ticket... I should have listened to that review. I've actually tested out over 1,000 miles with my Passport next to this XRS 9500 and my passport does pick up more erroneous readings, however it also picks radar up to a 1 mile before the 9500. The 9500 also goes from 1 bar to 2 bars to full strength right away, unlike the competition. Let's face it, usually at 1 or 2 bars your still deciding if you should brake or not. I would stay away from this detector. The safety alerts showed a train in Wal-Mart (By the way there are no railroad tracks around for 2 miles), a VG1 alert at my house (totally residential area and highly impossible) and other inaccuracies that just don't add up. Good luck in your detector decisions, buckle up and drive safe! (That was safe.. not necessarily slow)

Taux : - I recently travelled to Toronto from Ft Laufderdale by car and, as is normal in Florida, I counted no less than 18 radar/Highway Patrol hits before we hit the Georgia border. After that, all the way to Toronto I only say 3 troopers and 2 of them were at accident scenes. So, it's not that Highway Patrol in the other states hide better, we down here just get a lot more special attention on the highways ... LOLOLOL ..

Anyway, I bought this Cobra unit and it is the max ... very easy to understand, clear and bright read out and voice warnings are given... both rear and front detection capablities .. 11 bands ... and MOST IMPORTANT I didn't get false hits continuously forcing me to turn the unit off, as has happened with outher radar detection units that I have owned! This unit has highway and city driving modes which are marvellous ...

The four main control buttons are on top of the unit and easy to manage so you can go 125 mph and reeset or change settings easily ... OK .. I meant 75 mph we don't really speed do we? Appart from mute this unit also has an intellimute function that turns the mute ON when your engine is revving at a low speed level that you can set ... then as you speed up the mute is turned off ... HMM works great ....

There are $400 to $500 units out there .. forget it ... Im sure this baby at less than $100 bucks will certainly give you bang for your buck ... and .... if you are one of my Florida neighbours, that travel to Disney regularily ... it will pay for itself on your first trip ...

Taux : - I bought it thinking of it as a cheep reminder to slow down. But its been the best investment iv ever bought just make sure your not leading the pac of road warriors and youll be well informed of when and how foar a speed trap is.

I've had BEL's and Passport's and even a Uniden detector, and for the money you cannot find a more solid detector than a whistler. On the highway detection is fantastic and around town in the city mode, the unit works near flawlessly. This machine is a big bang for the buck!!!

Taux : - I had this detector for 2 weeks and I have to return it with a 20% restocking fee(still happy to cut my losses). This unit gives false alarm all the time which makes it useless (7 to 15 alarms on a 25 mile trip from home to work)I also passed in front of 2 laser detectors (biker cops standing by with the laser gun in their hands aiming at traffic) and no alarm!!! Bottom line: it was waste of time and money. If you really have to try this or any other so called super duper expensive models(in the dream of beating the cops at their own game!), make sure the vendor will give you a refund if you're not happy or you'll be sorry, seriously!

Taux : - This unit gives far too many false alarms, and sometimes no alarm when it should. I stashed this away as a backup and paid for a very good detector which only works when it is supposed to. The first Cobra detector I had lasted about 6 years and worked fine. I don't know what happened to the quality.

Taux : - It really has gone off ahead of time when a Cop has his Rader out! I have driven by Cops and it hasn't gone off but I noticed that it is because they do no have their Radar out! It has saved me from a few tickets so far, I love it! It works great! Although It does go off anytime I am near an automatic opening door a lot but thats just a minor distraction compared to all the money this detector has saved me! I recommend it!

Taux : - I stopped keeping track after this radar detector paid for itself four times over by alerting me of traffic cops hidden late at night. I would absolutely have stopped for speeding every single time. I've gotten one ticket since then by a cop who SAID he tagged me with a laser, but I think he was lying since the detector didn't go off, and it alerted me of a laser radar in the past. It does go off a lot when there isn't a police radar around, but not for very long. To me that is a minor inconvenience. I just don't turn it up so lound that it drives me crazy. I can't say how it stacks up against more expensive products, but since it's saved me more than $600 in tickets, I'd say it is a very worthwhile investment.

Taux : - I received a Cobra XRS 9300 rader detector for Christmas and was disapointed to learn that something in my car generates a constant Ka band signal of varying strength.

It beeps constantly so long as the car is running. If you have a 2002 Nissan Maxima, do not buy this radar detector. It won't function in this car. I would not buy any radar detector in the future except from a dealer that would accept an open item return in the event that the product is so poorly engineered.

Taux : - Works great as advertised. Is much more sensitive than the old Cobra it is replacing. The only problem I have had with it is it seems to lose its compass calibration once every couple of days. Not really a big deal, but it was one of the main reasons I paid extra for this unit, the compass. It always calibrates right back up with no problem, it just doesn't hold it very long. Sometimes it will de-calibrate its self, pointing in the wrong direction. Other times it will just freeze at one cardinal point, like SE or something like that.

Taux : - Bought this radar detector for my Harley Road King. I was looking for a detector that I could install on the bike with minimal exposed hardware. I did not want a typical looking detector stuck on the handlebars. And, i definitely did not want one that could be easily removed/stolen.

The Whistler Cruisader seemed to fit the bill. However, there were few reviews on it. So, I am taking some time to share my views.

I took about 4 hours total to install the system. I ran into a few snags but was able to easily figure out a workaround. The main unit is installed on the handlebars near the center. I tried a few different areas and liked that spot the best. I may buy a gauge housing to put the main unit inside and thereby dress the unit up a bit.

The sensor is installed just under the headlight. I used the center bolt that holds the brake line bracket. I had to drill out the hole a bit (first snag). The unit looks great in that spot. It's tucked away and barely noticable.

I mounted the rear laser sensor to the license plate. Of all the pieces, I like this mount the least. I can easily see fashioning a mount to better locate this piece. Of note, I found a review that said the rear laser sensor wire was too short. That's ridiculous. The wire from that sensor is 3 feet; the plug from the unit is an additional 3 feet. I easily snaked it around the frame and connected the plugs under the seat with plenty of extra.

I wired the unit directly to the battery; however, I plan to come back and wire it into the electrical system. That way the system comes on and goes off with the ignition.

The wires easily passed under the Road King's dash and most of the connections were made under the seat. There is only one small area near the neck of the bike where the wires are exposed and they are easily covered with wire covering.

I bought the in-helmet display and love it. I cut a small pocket in the foam of the earpiece and passed the LED boom to just inside the visor. The light shines directly into my right eye and easily noticed when it goes off. However, it is out of the way and unintrusive.

I took a ride from Birmingham to Biloxi and the detector went off for every cop that I saw. I was very pleased with it and would recommend it for anyone else.

Taux : - After going through the time and trouble of installing the Cruisader on my Cycle, and then to find out this thing doesn't work. Tells me that there is a "Com Error". Not a happy camper! Now I have to take it all off so I can return it. Did I mention, Not a happy camper!

Taux : - It looked like a good idea. But, it comes with no speaker system and only a blinking LED connection. The LED isn't visible in bright sunlight. If you purchase the remote helmet accessory, the problem is the same. Works great at night, but not in the day unless you stick it in your eye. YOu also have 4 wires coming up your handle bars, more going to the rear, more to the front, and a ridiculous temperature sensor hanging there. Range is poor -- I can see most CHP units before or at the same time the gadget 'glows'. Messy, so universal in mounting gadgets that none of them are "great" for much more than Rube Goldberg setups. I have yet to see where you get the 'audio" accessory mentioned in the manual. Unfortunately, by the time you bend and shape things to mnout the three or four gadgets, adjust the wiring, and place the sensors -- it is no longer returnable.

Taux : - when looking at the description, it does not include the in helmet display, i wrote the seller, and they still havent changed it!!!!!!!

Taux : - Installed the unit and within days it started to give continuous alerts. Contacted Whistler Customer service and after confirming that it was installed correctly, was told to take the unit out and send it back because "the engineers were interested in looking at it". When I asked for a replacement unit (since this takes some time to install) there was no offer to replace, no offer to pay for shipping, no estimate of time it would take. I wouldn't recommend the unit, or the company.

Taux : - Have not had a chance to use it much but it seems to work well and for the price i am happy with it. I would like to disconnect the x alarm in highway mode as i do not need it but it seems i cannot do this when i read the manual. This is the only downfall i can find with this product

Taux : - Well after getting popped taking the kids to Disney World by a new unmarked Dodge Charger and having to give an Attorney some money to rid the fine and points, I started looking. I was not in a position to buy a $300-$400 detector, but wanted a great one. I looked everywhere and in the end this is the best of the best (price class) in every radar/laser shootout on the web. It will detect every laser/lidar on the cops market today. Every Radar band too. Cops mostly just using the K and Ka,Ku bands now anyway. This has it all. Beautiful display and overall nice quality. Like with any detector you have to be smart about speeding. It works and well before I saw the squad car in my experiences (1 month). This is Radar Roy's top pick in class along with several other sites. Do your homework,Whistler is better than any Cobra or Uniden and even better than my old retired Bel Vector. Overall I would say this is the 4th best on the market today next to Passport,Valentine One, and Bel. Very satisfied!

One more thing, placement of your detector is soo important. I drive an 07' Camry and it is recommended to mount it directly center of windshield and halfway up the window. NOT behind rear view mirror. High=Bad! If you are in a taller vehicle such as SUV mount it center windshield and as low as possible, but NOT behind windshield wiper or laying on the dash either. It's suggest about 2-3" above wipers on taller vehicles. This all makes sense because of where laser/lidar is aimed low on the front of your vehicle and unlike radar is only about 3 feet wide for detecting.

Do your homework and agree this is a great product.

Taux : - I have used this with my Escort SRX and my new Escort 9500ix. It works beautifully to amplify the ramp up on all detectors and spoken words on the 9500ix very clearly and above my loud music and/or open windows. I have it mounted under my dash panel, and it is still loud and clear (I have the detector set at about half volume, although it goes to almost maximum volume without distorting). The included wire tap makes installation easy. I suggest hard wiring your detector at the same time using the escort hard-wire kit, since most of the cable snaking and wire taping labor can be combined with the install of this speaker. My only complaint is that the fuse holder is cheap and opened itself up (causing the power to turn off), but a little bit of tape over the fuse holder stopped that problem from re-occurring.

Taux : - Excellent product. Amplified speaker overpowers road noise, tire hum, wind noise, and the stereo in my convertible 2004 Jeep Wrangler. I highly recommend this for anyone with an Escort SR7/ZR3 detector/jammer. Speaker is small enough for hidden mount.

Taux : - I purchased this to replace an Passport that was very happy with, but I wanted a unit that was cordless. If you are considering the XTR-185 because it is cordless, don't bother. The battery life is very poor. Even after sitting in bright sunlight all day long, the unit will only run for about 1.5 - 2 hours. I find myself still having to plug it in frequently.

Taux : - Detector turns itself off if it gets hit with a strong radar signal. Solar assist for battery charge seems non existent. I am throwing it away and buying something else

Taux : - Avery practical product given that it operates as cordless and that the batteries can be charged through the car's cigarette lighter/current or through one's battery charger; also it becomes charged from its solar panel. It takes a while to learn what all the beeps and sounds that come out of it indicate. Also, there are no indications of when the batteries are charged in the enclosed instructions; only how to charge them. (I had to e-mail the manufacture to get this.)

I would have liked one that includes a compass (as did my previous detector), but these evidently are not manufactures any longer.

Taux : - I have owned several radar detectors over the years - none better than this one. I can't imagine getting one any better for less money.

Taux : - I thought about getting a radar detector for a while then when I got 2 $200 tickets I decided it was time to try it out. I haven't gotten a ticket since it has been about 3 years.

Taux : - I own a different model of Beltronics radar detector (the Express 925) which I have had for less than a month. It developed a porblem with the display, so I called Beltronics so that I could get it repaired. Surprise! Surprise! The lady there told me they will not honor the warranty of any Beltronics radar detector not sold by an "authorized reseller" and she told me that Amazon is NOT an authorized reseller. So if you buy your radar detector from Amazon or other non authorized dealers, they will not honor the warranty if you have a problem. Check Beltronics web site to verify this!

Taux : - I bought the Bel-Tronics Radar Detector For Vehicles, Model 975R.
I am delighted with this radar detector. As you can see from the photo this units does not mount on the dashboard. It it installed under the hood and also at the rear of the car under the bumper. It is very sensitive and powerful. I have avoided several tickets so far thanks to its design and power. One trooper pulled me over and told me that he knew I was speeding but by the time his radar locked on at just under one mile that I was three miles below the posted speed limit. I had been 33 miles an hour over the speed limit when the Bel-Tronics Radar Detector For Vehicle (975R) warned me with plenty of time to slooooowwwww down. I could tell the trooper was upset. He kept looking around the inside of my car for a dash radar detector but couldn't see one since there wasn't one! It is under the hood and the rear bumper. This device has already paid for itself! I highly recommend. (I would recommend Good Guys vs. CC)

Taux : - This product is all that I expected and more. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Taux : - I purchased this product got it up in running in 10 seconds. This model is great it has the easiest user interface I have ever seen. Just use the buttons on the top and it will tell you how to work it.

The features are outstanding it has everything that you will need for the present day and what is to come in the future. I would defintly recommend this for just about anyone who drives at all. This model has amazingly great range on it. I have found it to have a few false alarms here and there particulary in pop mode but its easy enough to just click the city mode on the top and basically get rid of all those false alerts. The only down side is probably the size of it, by no means is it descrete when you have a police officer in front of you or behind but drive legally and you won't have any problem since there not illegal. I defintly recommend Cobra over everyone else due to there exclusive safety alert I have been surprised by how many times that thing has gone off and I the emergency vehicle is a ways back out of sight. Buy this product trust me anyone who drives at all will find it very handy. The price of speeding tickets now a days means that it pays for itself if you get caught off guard even once.

Taux : - I bought this radar detector about 7 months ago and since then it has saved me at least 4 times from state troopers that had all their lights off on the side of the road (so you wouldn't be able to see them until it was too late). This detector usually lets me know about .4-.75 mile in advance of a radar signal (more like 1000-1500 feet if the signal is blocked, i.e. trooper parked behind a concrete barricade). Overall, I would say this is worth the money, since one speeding ticket is about $200 in Pennsylvania!

Taux : - Been looking for a while for a way to keep my leased Escalade looking stock, and not drilling a ton of holes through the firewall to run wires. This Blinder with the Cheetah Wireless kit made installation easy. I think it took me 30 min total. The regular hard wired Blinder M45 says it can take a few hours! I get all of the jamming alerts on a tiny pager sized device that i clip to my visor. Very loud and alerts are easy to see. I recommend it totally for anyone looking to eliminate the hassle of the hard wire installation. I also bought the Cheetah Stealth Node, Remote control. Easily turn of my Blinder after cops get jammed, that way i dont attract any attention.

Taux : - I bought this detector because of its cordless feature to use on a motorcycle. Most of the time however I use it plugged in using the supplied power cord.

I also have a much more expensive Escort Passport 8500. Soon after starting to use the Traveller, I found that it was even more sensitive than the Passport with far fewer false alarms. The Traveller is also much better at filtering out X band radar coming from garage door openers, etc.

I then did a test in my car with both detectors. plugged in one at a time.I pointed my car towards a local radar fixed trap.I drove my car towards the sign with my Passport on. I then turned my car around and drove the same route with my Traveller.

The Traveller detected the radar signal about 300 feet before the Passport.

Be aware however that the Traveller II, like all similar cordless detectors, functions quite a bit less effectively when used cordlessly compared to its plugged in mode.This is especially the case if the batteries are worn down.

Be aware also of the fact that most of the other Radarhawk detector are virtually worthless despite being more expensive. Stick with this model.

Taux : - I was plesantly surprised that the GT1 G-Timer was as accurate as dragstrip timers. My "local" dragstrip is 104 miles away so I will save enough $$$$$ on gas to pay for it over time. I also plan on renting it out to other car guys I know around town who are always tinkering with their cars and want to measure their gains. I usually do three runs and take the average. Except for two aborted runs because of excessive tire spin out of about 15 passed the GT1 is consistently within a tenth of a second and 1 MPH. You will also get more accurate times using the same launch techniques each time and testing in consistant weather conditions. I prefer 70's with relatively low humidity. You can get your weather conditions, elevation and pressure info from weather related websites. A car will always run better in favorable conditions. The GT1 can't be beat for the price and the features are very easy to use. Just watch out for cops. Triple digit speeds doesn't help to make friends in the law enforcement community. I highly recommend this product.

Taux : - Great It works and gives you the data you want. Horse power, 0-60,1/4 mile, braking distance. and the graphs for g's also helps with cornoring you know wher you max is and you can litterally see how fast you should take that same corner next time arround so properly used the gt1 does a really good job.

Taux : - The Escort Passport GT2 is a powerful tool and a fun toy, especially considering it's low price and ease of use. It is useful for analyzing vehicle performance as well as honing your driving skills. It has lot's of display modes to show G forces as well as 0-60 times and more. You just suction cup it to the windshield, plug it into the cig lighter and go.

Taux : - I use it with my 2005 I-4 Camry which has completed 40000km. I installed a simple aluminium air intake system in the hose pipe connecting the throttle body to see if the product really increases power by 10-30% due to more air flow in the combustion chamber...I can tell for a fact it does coz my stock car is only 150HP SAE now it registers 197HP all the time and in some instances registered 185HP and recently registered 210HP which is mind blowing, in one particular run I went from 60MPH to 80MPH in 6.4secs never possible with any stock camry. My 1/4mile is 16.7 best and under 17sec most of the time. My camry is a manual shift and has DVD-NAV w/Xenon fogs,low & high headlight beam with LED taillights and underbody LED blue lights and rear view camera mirror not just mirror and a separate rear view through the NAV system when I reverse, also have 4 rear sensors. I clocked a mere 9.35sec to 62.5mph which is ok for a 4 banger. this product is amazing...race dudes/buds should get one it is cheaper than the G-Tech performance device and has English and Metric system if you like Kph or mph.

Taux : - This is a product that has been around for a long time. The factory website doesn't show it as a current product, so I am guessing these are a blowout of old stock. Will it be replaced? I don't know, but I doubt it. At the $200 list price I have always found these units I wanted one, but this is not an item you will use all the time, and I am ( cheap / careful with my money. - pick either )

At this price, and suspecting that when they are gone they will be gone for good, if you have ever wanted one, now is the time.

It works well, as advertised. Checked my performance and have been passing it amongst friends. After it makes the loop of my friends, it will probably be used infrequently... but this price I can justify this type of use. If you are a car person, adjusting your tune - either motor or handling, this is a very inexpensive alternative to visiting a dragstrip or skidpad. I am not sure the skidpad type of numbers are accurate, but reviews indicate the acceleration figures are indeed accurate with this device.

Have fun, but be careful where and when you use this. The seller is not "Amazon" but a third party that sells through Amazon. I found them to be very reliable, fast shipping, and fast to reply to an email.

Taux : - Worked for about one hour, then display went blank. Makes a ticking sound if you put it close to your ear. What a worthless brand, get a Beltronics or an Escort instead.

Taux : - XTR 260: Received, worked for about 1 hour, then display went blank and unit only makes a ticking sound now... so much for quality control in low cost labor countries. I will be looking for a better made detector from either Beltronics or Escort. Whistler is not what it used to be.

Taux : - I recently bought model XSR9945, first it is big and heavy. The windshield suction cup is a terrible design, it won't hold up the unit and the suction cups won't stick to the windshield ( there too small). The power cord is too short to reach my windshield in a Subaru Outback. The power cord should be a straight cord, without the curls to reach and maybe put out of the way to your vision (if you can get it to stay on the windshield, mine's on the dash now). I would probably go to a store next time to see how big it is before I bought another one, size does matter !

I guess the only up and down side is it works on batteries. Up because no wires down because you need new batteries every day on the trip (7-8hr driving days). Taux : - I bought this few weeks back and the installation was easy. It detected rada and laser few times for me already. I will say it does the job. I have it on all the time.

The only thing I don't like is the false alarms. I have to use city mode all the time or this will go off too often with automatic doors and so on.

Taux : - I got this radar detector about a month ago and have since driven over 3000 miles with it averaging 15 mph over. I have had enough of a warning every time there has been a cop using radar. I one time I was with a few other cars going 120-125 mph and the ka warning came on, i only had enough time to get down to 80 but since every one ells was going faster i was not the one to get the ticket. This is not going to perform like the Vi, and i would not suggest major speeding 35+ over the limit with this unit. But if you are like many Americans who instead of talking on the cell phone and eating like to drive a little above the suggested limit, this is a great tool to have. I should add that it is by no means fool proof. Even the V1 is not fool proof, they will not help with laser. I would suggest the use of a CB radio, a police scanner (BCT-8) and laser jammers for more well rounded perfection. I would also like to state that by no means am condoning high speed driving, as a mechanical engineer i would as well suggest not go to slow either, it is the difference in speed that kills, so do not pass at a grater difference then 15mph when possible and try to stay as close to the average as possible. Also don't drive some junker at 100mph, if you do feel the need for speed please, for all of our safety drive a BMW, Audi or Porsche... these vehicles where designed for it and you neon or crown vic. was not. Back to the item at hand, it will more then pay for it self after your first cop encounter.

Taux : - Well I bought this product a few weeks ago and so far no tickets. I live in Louisville, Kentucky and I think we are the 14th largest city in the country (something like that). Even when in city mode there are a lot of false alerts especially around Walgreen's, Rite Aids, and banks. Also I couldn't find what city mode to put it in from a choice of C, C1, and C2. I looked online at Whistler's FAQ and it says C1 is for larger cities and C2 is for smaller cities and completely eliminates detecting X band radar, and I have no idea what just regular C does. Besides that, being sort of large, and when I mounted it, it sort of tilted upward and still does this is a pretty good radar detector. Again I still haven't been pulled over, and I would recommend this product and it is priced well though I think it is a little out dated and I think law enforcement will be coming out with something new that this detector doesn't provide protection against.

Taux : - I was referred to this product by 2 of my friends, after using this for 3 months I can only tell one thing , GOOD LUCK. It may be the one of the best for under 50 dollars, but if you can afford better one go for it, The problem I saw is, it only detects cop radar 50% of times, mostly it beeps during useless times, like cop going in opposite lane or in front of walgreens. I saw cop for about 3 or 4 times, waiting on shoulder, but my radar did not detect it, but couple of times it did pick the radar. I hope this review was helpful.

Taux : - This detector, and any other product from this manufacturer are very basic detectors with no scrambling capabilities whatsoever. They are frauds. Numerous independent research companies have determined that no added technology aside from detection technology exists within the casing of any of this company's products. Stay clear.

Taux : - Has pretty good radar detecting capabilities and can give out fairly good warning to stationary cameras and hand held lasers, but can be picked up by the mobile Spectre III (Stalcar III) from over a kilometre away which is sometimes further away than the detector can pick up the radar!!!!

Taux : - I live in a college town and communte downtown past two areas constantly monitored by speed trap motorcycle cops.

Our city (Eugene OR) has one detective for property crime but evidently has enough officers to overpatrol a few lucrative areas . Documents dated back to 1981 correctly label one of these (Jefferson bridge) a speed trap, and recommended against continuing the city's speed limit exemption due to potential abuse. These recommendations were overriden for no discernable reason by a police chief unconnected to the Speed Review panel.

I had a safe record until 2 years ago, when, within the space of a month I got tagged for two tickets. One was for 7 miles above the speed limit while driving a rental car.

The second was 4th of July weekend during a massive speed trap on the abovementioned area, with seven motorcycle cops being radioed by a single officer hitting cars at a rate of one per 5 minutes!

That's when I got the Blinder. I had it installed because the angle of the front mounted sensors is very important. Plus they did a great job of integrating the buttons into the console so they're inconspicuous. Since it's legal in this state it's not a problem.

The light will not get you but the sound will! I had the Blinder on for a few weeks before it got triggered. Although the unit gives a brief 'peep' when it's armed, hearing that thing go off continuously will definitely get your attention!

I am not going to get into specifics, but it works as advertised. If you're over the speed limit and you get hit, hit the kill switch and slow down. The next time you get tagged you'll be fine. Evidently it takes a few seconds for the unit and the Lidar to re-arm.

I feel a twinge of guilt using this because I believe in the law. Yet the purpose of speeding laws are subverted when police unfairly use them as a cash register. This is only made worse by a Kangaroo Speeding court that presumes everyone's guilt before innocence.

Taux : - These things have most certainly paid for themselves in the time I've had them on my car. They do a great job at scaring the hell out of me while I'm driving along blasting my stereo. All of the sudden the music stops and a loud BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP alerts you to slow down. I know I've been hit speeding, but I quickly slow down, turn off the jammer and let them tag me doing the speed limit and all has turned out well.

The only thing that I don't like, which is why I gave it 4 stars, is that it's a pain to install and mount correctly (probably depends on the car.)

Taux : - I haven't had the opportunity to know that it is effectively jamming police LIDAR. However the unit was received in a timely manor. The package included all the needed hardware to install.

Taux : - I think given how reasonable the retail price itself is for this detector, it's a great working gadget. My suggestion to those who may have had little malfunctions -- don't keep the detector on your dash when you're not in your car. I did it for safety reasons of the neighborhood I was living in, but I saw it also helped in keeping the item from overheating when sitting in the sun for hours. And whether you use the sticky pads for the dash or suction for the window, it's easy to remove and replace again. As far as how much it worked ... well, I never once got a ticket.

Taux : - It stopped working within two weeks. Turns out, the fuse had blown on the cord. I waited over a year before I put it in my next car. It picked up a cop going the other direction on the freeway between AZ and CA fairly well... but I saw the photo radar van about a block and a half away and had already slowed before the detector picked it up. It was on highway mode in the city, and it never went above one bar while picking up the van. Not the greatest detector out there.

It Has No Range!

Typically, I see the cops before it even goes off. The manual said it had a range of a mile. There's NO way! I have past cops sitting on the side of the road and it would not go off until I was within 30 feet of the police car.

Also, The manual said it had technology to prevent it from mistaking a automatic motion detector door for a police radar, but that seems to be false as well. I know where every automatic door is in town. As a matter of fact, if it would pick up police radar with the effectiveness that it picks up automatic doors, I would be very pleased.

Taux : - This laser/radar detector is one of my best investments in a long time. I tend to drive a little on the fast side and in the three weeks that I owned the unit it has already paid for itself many times over. That is, of course, if you ignore the fact that owning the device has given msome serious confidence in the speed at which I drive. I guess I'm just thankful that it works so well! Speaks in 2 languages, to configure, and has a very accurate level of reading signals and determining how far away they are.

Taux : - Bel has made big improvements to their detectors over the years. They definitely manufacture the highest quality low-price units, and their overall product quality is right at the top w/ Escort & Valentine. This RX55 is very easy to use, and is not prone to the "panic-type" alerts of older models (which was a set-up to help drivers when encountering instant-on radar; but was very inaccurate). The mounting system is also hugely improved (Thanks, company partner Escort). For the money, it's a good buy. If you don't travel too much over the limit, or if this is a first detector - it's a good one. However, if you can swing it, the RX65 or Passport 8500 is a much better performer. That "next step" in detector pricing brings w/ it A LOT more sensitivity.

Taux : - I tried this RX-55 and found a lot of false alerts -- it seemed to just go off for no reason and I passed like 4 police cars and nothing. I researched online and asked radar experts and they agree -- the better one is the vector 955. Either upgrade to the rx65 or get the cheaper vector 955. I only write this to save many of you the hassle and unhappiness that I went through.

Taux : - I haven't had that much experience with detectors, but I did use one detector before I switched to this one. Compared to the previous one, this Beltronics unit is far superior and I do now get peace of mind when I need to go a little faster than what the police can tolerate. It has far better range with signal strength indicator so that you get a rough idea how far the signal source is. I also like the way it's designed. It's not a perfect device, but overall, I think it is a good product and does the job well.

Taux : - The radar detector was not in the condition that it was supposed to be in. A few days later I saw you could get an Escort refurbished unit for less money and it included a warranty. I would have bought this if I knew it was available. A banged up detector supposed to look better is disappointing.

Taux : - The Radar detector itself works great, it has saved me a couple of times. But the release button broke soon after I got it and won't stay in the suction cup holder, so I have it velcroed to my dash. Other than that I am very pleased with it.

Taux : - ESCORT IS CONSTANTLY CHANGING THIS DETECTOR TO KEEP UP WITH THE TIMES AND TO SELL MORE DETECTORS, BUT WORKS FINE. NO TICKETS.

Taux : - OK, I admit this is an awesome detector, but in case anyone else has the problem I had, here's why I only give it a '4'-- it didn't last long.

My Valentine One was stolen in early 2005, and I'm an experienced 'speed driver', so I needed a new detector FAST. I LOVED my V1, but couldn't see shelling out another $400+ for a new one, so I figured I'd trust what I heard & get a Passport 8500.

With the Passport, I missed knowing which direction the radar was coming from, and the "bogey counter" on the Passport is occasionally unreliable compared to what I was used to in my V1. (I STILL miss my V1 directional arrows!) However, the 8500 seemed to detect earlier, especially on long open roads. It even seemed to work a little better from behind.

So, I guess I'd call them about even-- except for reliability. About 8 months ago my 8500 started resetting a lot. Then the problem got worse. Every time I accelerated or turned a corner, it would reset. EVERY time. I replaced the little phone connector on the cord, which seemed to help, but after 4 (yes 4) new connectors, the problem just kept getting worse. Now my 8500 is a $300 paper weight. The cord tested fine with a multimeter, and my 8500 is dead.

So again I need a new detector. But after losing a $400+ V1 to theft, and another $300+ to bad electronics, maybe I'm better off with a cheaper detector. So what will I do?

If I can spare the $400+ I'll get another V1. It worked VERY well and I trust it. Both it's detection and its reliability.

If I can't part with $400 I'll get another 8500 or maybe 2 cheaper ones for both cars. I'm disappointed in my 8500's short life, but it sure was a great detector when it worked!

Update: Escort fixed my 8500 for $50 and it works like a champ. In the meantime I bought another Valentine One anyway. Now we've got the V1 in our family car and the 8500 in my work car.

Taux : - I purchased this detector a month or so ago, and have been running it through it's paces ever since. There are lots of speed traps in the area where I drive, so I've had several opportunities to test it out.

Conclusions:
1) A radar detector is not a substitute for defensive driving. You still need to be aware of where speed traps are likely to be set up and behave accordingly (slow down, keep a car in front of you, etc.).

2) The police obviously spend a great deal of time trying to hide in places to make radar detection difficult. Even the best radar detector may not save you, or at best will give you only a moment's notice.

3) The Escort seems to behave well in stopping false warnings, and warning me of threats. It does not give me tonnes of time to react. I've read all of the reports indicating how much more sensitive the Passport is, but in real life this only translates into fractional seconds in the conditions where speed traps are likely. I'm not a habitual speeder, so I don't tend to worry about normal conditions where I'll stumble upon a policeman who happens to be running radar while they're driving. I'm more concerned about defeating specific speed traps where the speed limit isn't reflective of safe driving conditions.

4) The Passport detects POP radar, and it's OS is upgradable, which should extend it's effective lifespan quite a bit.

5) There are many bells and whistles which allow you to completely configure the detector to meet your needs, including displaying the exact frequency of the most important threat. This is very valuable in mapping out false alarms in your area.

No matter how many bells and whistles, nor the name recognition of the manufacturer, will keep you from getting a ticket if the detector isn't sensitive enough. Though the Passport passes the sensitivity test, I don't know that it is clearly superior to detectors costing 1/2 the price. Thus the 4 star rating.

Taux : - I was excited to get this solar powered device because it was, for the most part, wireless. It's a nice detector but the first problem I ran into was the flimsey double-backed tape method of mounting it to the dash. Would not adhere at all! So I reverted to the windshield mount with suction cups. Better than average adherence. But, since I assumed that "solar powered" meant leave it in the sun, I was quickly disappointed when I discovered that as the unit sat in my car during the heat of the day, the plastic arm apparently could not support the weight of the unit and it literally melted causing the unit to droop. The manufacturer was quick to send another arm, but it melted in the first 24 hours that it sat in the sun. Wait a few months for this one to get the specs right.

Taux : - I ordered this thing along with my purchase of a Whistler Radar Detector, because it was advertised on Amazon as a smart companion purchase and I assumed that I needed to buy it separately. When the Radar Detector arrived, it included a power cord, so the Intelli-cord was not really necessary. Amazon needs to make it more clear what's included in the package with the primary product. Admittedly, it offers a quick on-off button that is not found on the standard power cord, but it's just not necessary.

Taux : - I have had this detector for just a month and its already saved my butt for sure at least twice. Specifically once when I was speeding a considerable amount and a ticket would have been guaranteed.

It works well with lasers, I can confirm this just today. Also the Emergency Vehicle feature works well to my surprise. Its kind of useless to me, but very cool nonetheless.

I went from a cheapo whistler unit that was stolen to this one and I couldn't be happier. It is very customizable and over time, once you've figured out which frequencies are usually bogus, you can set it up so you will have almost zero false [radar] alarms.

The only thing that really bugs me is that it is very sensitive to POP, and if I leave it on, I get tons of false POP warnings. I've still yet to get a POP warning from a cop so Ill probably disable POP.

This detector is certainly worth the money and more. If you can get it for under $100, you have my full support.

Taux : - Bought this radar detector after my Bel radar detector bit the dust after 10 years. I've had this detector for about a month now and found it to be useless. Lots of false alarms on all bands, especially on K and Ka. I have yet to see a police car with radar after the alarms go off. I had to turn off the radar detector "detector" features (VG-2 and Spectre) as they would go off for no reason. An example: sitting in a driveway of a rural subdivision and the VG-2 alarm going off non-stop, and I live in a state (Wisconsin) that doesn't even use these types of detectors. Voice alert got annoying after awhile so I turned that off too. My old Bel detector was always on the mark with detecting police radar and rarely had false alarms. I would not recommend this product to anyone - waste of money.

Taux : - This radar detector is the probably the best detector i ever owned, the range is great i live in raleigh north carolina and i do lots of highway driving and this thing saved me at least 50 times from a speeding tickets and the compass is amazing and everything on it, the only dislike is out of know where it will display pop mode when theres no cops insight, like i will be in my driveway and the detector will go off like crazy. But other then that great detector i recommend it to all my friends and family.

Taux : - Nice looking unit purchased in time for a 3,500 mile trip. Spent time traveling to Iowa from New Hampshire with the compass reading E instead of W...very frustrating..I had a magnetic compass in the car and the readings varied widely. Re-calibrated the unit probably 20 times, all to no avail. Just before item returned, it read N while parked in front of my apt. while car was actually facing S.
Further, it gave me virtually no warning time on approaching police vehicles. It would finally pick up the radar, but only after the police unit was in full view. I know radar was more prevalent due to traffic stops I saw on the trip, including one car in front of me picked up by radar, cop turned around, and my unit didn't pick it up until he was in back of me and passing to get the speeder in front of me

Taux : - This little thing has saved my behind numerous times. Because of Detectors being illegal in some States, I set a small box of Kleenex on the Dash of my Truck and put the Detector inside the Box of Kleenex under a few layers. So it is pretty much invisable. Excellent product for the price.

Taux : - ive been through 2 other radars in my life (RMR miniD & Whistler 1783) and none of those compare to the silver bullet!

The advantage against the 2 i previouly owned was the FILTERING and DISPLAY ALERT! The filter mode in this unit is great, it never gave out the obvious false alerts like my previous detectors did. it seems like the Silver Bullet will only alert you intensively if there is a cop shooting a radar. i had just a few false alerts but the silver bullet beeps only once and automatically filters it...

unlike my previous detectors (including many others), the silver bullet has an LCD screen. when the detector is alerting, the LCD light instantly turns on (very bright light), which is the perfect alert warning when you drive at night. With a strong filter the silver bullet offers, it is worth to pay attention to the alerts because its most likely a cop comin up. Though the sound alert is not that loud (I listen to mucic LOUD so), the LCD screen lights up bright enough for you to get your attention.

The silverbullet suffers from short detection range, but from where i live (city/suburbs), it would not matter. the silver bullet offers enough protection in my city.

overall the silver bullet satisfy me enough. if you live on the highway, i suggest you grab a higher end radar detector (escort,Bel) for better combination of filtering and range! silver bullet is perfect for the city!

Taux : - I drive a lot between Dallas and Fort Worth (which is "Ticket Heaven" for cops) and the Silver Bullet works great. Unless you drive, at least, 15 MPH over the speed limit on a regular basis, the Silver Bullet is just fine. However, if you drive a Porche, like driving in the left lane and want to set your cruise control on 100 MPH or more on the Interstate, I would recommend the Escort 8500 X50 or the Bel Pro RX65. For only about $200 more, they pick up radar over-the-hill and around corners a little better than the Silver Bullet..and they are NOT cordless like the Silver Bullet. Also, mine picks up "POP" just like the others mentioned above. The only problem is that once the cop hits you with "POP" or Laser, he's got your speed whether you're over the limit or not. Regardless, if you're being clocked, no radar detector in the world is going to save you. For convenience, size and ample warning when doing 15 MPH (or less) over the speed limit, the Silver Bullet does the job...it's also easier to hide if you ever do get pulled over!

Taux : - Really good radar detectors start around one fifty and if you can't afford one you probably can't afford to be speeding either. No cordless detector--the Silver Bullet being no exception--has as great a range as a corded one or the ability to detect "pop" radar like a corded one. The cordless circuit boards are designed to save power, even when using the cord. That all being said, this unit's performance and features are pretty good for the entry-level price, and the unit so darn good looking and easy to use you might want to buy it anyway.

I found that false alerts were minimal using "no" filter (there's no city/highway setting) and usually only happened around grocery and hardware store parking lots. I drove through several reduced speed zones (like road work areas) where there were portable radars to tell drivers their speed on the roadside. This unit's over-the-horizon and around-the-bend performance wasn't great, but was acceptable, and the range wasn't great either, but was acceptable. 360-degree coverage is a myth among radar detectors--if you really want rearward detection you need a second unit in your back window, and if you have a cigar lighter or power outlet in your back seat or cargo area you might be able to do that fairly easily, however, with an auto-off cordless unit it's impractical.

The only problem I had with this unit's detection was in a pop radar speed trap. The state troopers were well-positioned in the middle of a divided highway, in a small valley, and there were several troopers in a team, two using the radar, one in each direction, held steady and level on a mount, and two more directing the speeders into the turn-around to write citations. I'd be surprised at any detector giving ample warning in this case, but because it was pop (instant-on) radar, the Silver Bullet didn't detect anything at all. I was just lucky not to be in the left lane, because the person who was driving to my left at about the same speed was pulled over!

As far as bells and whistles, I'm a bit disappointed that there's no push-button for off/on or sleep/wake: I hated parking somewhere where it was getting false alerts and leaving it on because it would never turn itself off; but the stiff off/on switch was a pain to use often. Another complaint is the low battery warning--it started warning me about a low battery literally hours before the batteries were dead, and the incessant regular beeps was annoying. Also, the auto-off feature (after a certain amount of time with no detections) scared me to death until I got used to it on long drives because it beeps quite loudly to warn you it's shutting down. I wasn't very happy with the volume and auto-mute settings it had, they didn't seem to work as described, but they weren't totally unacceptable.

Again this unit is really nice looking, really small and light, and comes with three different mounts and two kinds of cords. I found it easy to mount to the windscreen and it stayed on, and stayed fairly steady. It even had an "instruction" mode to teach you what the features are and which radar made which sound when detected. I think this is a great choice for a first radar detector for someone who wants a good value for the money. It's far better than anything you can get at 2/3rds its price or less, but not good (or as complete, since it lacks pop detection) as certain corded units at the same price or higher.

Note: model 7600 is identical except for the addition of a digital compass.

Taux : - I bought my unit in Feb. 04 and it has performed perfectly since. It recognizes all bands (including Spectre 1) and has saved me mucho dinero. My car is parked outside in the blazing Florida sun and the unit has no apparent ill-effects from the heat. If a police vehicle has its detection equipment activated the Cobra 9700 WILL detect it, at least mine always does. I highly recommend this unit.

Taux : - Purchased this item for my husband and I must tell you, very good investment for the money. Product easy to install, easy to program as it has direction on it (N, S, W, E). Very easy to understand, clear voice alerts and special alerts for different kinds of bands.

Taux : - I think I got what I paid for. It managed to detect the speed-guns and warn me to give couple of seconds to slow down (in Sri Lankan roads). However, this unit developed a serious problem. The dot matrix display panel suddenly went dark. It turned out to be a problem with a connection point of the power supply. When I twist and wriggle the connecter a bit (at the point where the external cord connects with the unit) the display panel comes back momentarily. Now I cannot see the display at day time since it is so faint. I am living with that problem. Not sure if anyone else has got the same problem.

Apart from the problem with the display, all other functions are quite OK.

Taux : - I've used this radar for my children ice hockey & ringette training. it is accurate enough and gives immediate feedback how fast they really hits the puck or ring (in ringette. Easy to use, they can do it by themselves, just have to look the distance so that radar does not take the speed of the stick.

Taux : - This is a fun and easy way to get very inaccurate measures of peoples throwing skills. I do not recomend this product to anyone who want to use it in ex projectwork. You can get the same result if you gently roll the ball towards the radar as if you throw it with all your force. I only recomend this product for fun and laughs.

Taux : - I am a 13 year old baseball pitcher.(sorry, I know that this is a kids review) I got SpeedTrac last Christmas. It seems to be very accurate and a good motivater! On Christmas day, I was throwing 59 mph. I worked hard to get my speed up with SpeedTrac, and now I can throw 75! It is also good to measure the difference between your fastball and changeup.
This is an affordable gun. It hardly ever give me weird reading. I highly suggest this item!
PS design flaw: setting it on the ground and not using your hands is a great idea, but sometimes it gets in the way of your pitch LOL! I have had to send it to get repaired twice, once with a 53 mph changeup and once with a 69 mph fastball.

Taux : - Ok for the price. Alerts when the situation is so close. Need to alert littler farther distance. Intelimute is good.

Taux : - For starters it does pick up radars at a good distance the problem is it picks up everything else to. luckily its not an annoying sound when it goes off if you turn off the voice alert. I think for the price its a good product.

Taux : - This is the second detector I have owned, my old one stolen from my truck when it was at the tire dealer overnight (They don't know how to lock the truck or set the alarm apparently). I am far happier with this detector than my old one. It is more stylish, the speaker is clearer, the screen is sharper and it functions well too.

Taux : - I received this detector as an exchange for an earlier Cobra I sent in for service. Honestly, among diehard radar detector enthusiasts (yes, there are such folks) Cobra detectors don't have a great reputation. Cobra attracts a lot of first-time detector buyers with loudly-advertised "features" on their units. Truly, many of these don't have a real useful purpose.

Honestly, Cobra has made strides toward a better detector in this and the last generation of it's pricier units. Detection range is on par with other units you might find in this price range (or even a bit higher) with the exception of one of the widely used Ka frequencies. Several folks who've tested recent Cobras have reported a glaring lack of sensitivity to the 35.5 Ka frequency. This COULD be bad news for many folks out there as this is one of the more widely used of the Ka frequencies. However, if this is not in use on your commute, the Cobra 9940 is an acceptable unit for the daily commute. It's range is adequate although not on par with the the Bel Vector series which is priced in the mid to high $100 range. Whistler also makes a trio of detectors in this price range (XTR-690, XTR-695, and Pro 78) which tie the Cobra on detection of some frequencies and surpass it on others. Certainly, Whistler's units appear to excel at all Ka frequencies. If you can make due without the flashiness of the Cobra units, the Whistlers are certainly worth a look.

In short, this is an adequate detector for many drivers who don't surpass the speed limit by more than 8-10 mph. However, don't count on it for much more than that. But then again, a radar detector is just one tool to use in conjuction with one's own judgement when electing to surpass the speed limit.

Taux : - So far I don't have much to complain about. I have had this unit for about a month. I do notice more advance warning than my old whistler unit. I have had the emergency vehicle approaching warning a few times when there was not emergency vehicle within sight and when there was one in sight I get nothing so I guess some of these bells and whistles are just that. The compass has had to be recalibrated 3 times now as it would all of a sudden only read SW. What's up with that?

So, as a radar detector I have been pretty pleased.

Taux : - I purchased this for my husband for Christmas and asked him if he had a comment. This is what he said. "The warning range is very close. I usually have less than a mile notice of activity."

Taux : - I have bought one for my husband then one for me. My husband says his goes off within a longer distance. It seems to me you have to be pretty close to the radar gun or laser for it to go off. I went passed a few local cops and it didn't go off at all. I had a few pass me going in the opposite direction and they were almost directly across from me before going off. My husband claims his works slightly better but weirdly we haven't seen any staties to really test it fully.

Taux : - I recently purchased the Whistler XTR-325 Radar/Laser Detector and used it on vacation through the states of Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky.

The product worked well and I averaged 5 miles per hour faster than on previous trips without a detector. City mode worked great as well as the quiet mode, keeping the false warnings low and noise level down.

The only drawback to this product is it's size. I was hoping for a unit that was about half the size. I though digital meant smaller? I hope they downsize the next model.

Taux : - This worked pretty decent for a while and it did detect radar and saved me once or twice. But i eventually came across a cop who used a laser and he got me with it :( . The detector didnt even go off once. no beeps no nothin! Do not buy this. It's not worth the trouble. It also beeps way too much, picking up automatic door radar signals more than anything else. Do yourself a favor and keep looking for another detector. I might just go for a signal jammer myself.

I usually don't write any reviews, its a waste of time anyway.
I am going to be brief. I got the product quick, that's fine.
i went to birmingham to tested and to atlanta also; i passed three troopers at the other side of the road, the device didn't beep even once.
it went off a couple of times, but who knows what it was, i did not see any police car. during highway it was so disappointed, i saw many police cars at the side of the road with all their lights on and no detection at all.

Im telling you it makes me laugh when i went back to the box to read all the features, not even close to meet at least one of those with reliability. I read an article saying that you dont get a good radar for less than a three hundred dollars, i start to believe that. i am impressed how many good articles i have seen in this site promoting this product. i simply don't understand, must be someone that works for this radar. please try it out but be sure that they are going to reimburse you the money before doing it. in the scale from 1 to 10 this product is 2 maybe. i gave 2 stars because people dont trust in 1 star rating. think about getting a speed ticket of $200 for trusting this device, try it out, drive at 55mphs/hr just for testing and you will see the piece of thrash you have. then return it.

Taux : - To point out what others have said, this detector works fabulous and the range is fantastic. In that area, I'm extremely happy with it.
The compass thing isn't really a big deal for me... I never really programmed it so I won't make any other comments about it.

There was an issue I've had with this detector and it's quite bothersome. BUT this may be partly the fault of my 12v power outlet in my car. I noticed sometimes while driving the detector would "restart" itself. I traced this back to a loose connector for the power outlet. I assumed I fixed since the restarting stopped. About 4-5 months after I bought it I started seeing strange incomplete lettering and blocks on the display. The detector continued to function properly.
Now about 8 months later the display shows nothing at all. It is completely non-functional. The detector still works fine though audibly. Did my loose connector end up causing a strange short in the display? I'm not sure. The connector is not a problem anymore but the display no longer shows. It's ok. I can deal with it. :)

Taux : - This unit picks up signals with ease. If anything, it picks up too many signals and when programmed for all the radar sources, it constantly beeps.
It picks up the POP signal at times, when I can not see a visable source for a POP radar unit. Nevertheless, that is not to say it doesn't work right.

To compare it with the Escort is like comparing apples and grapes, but it seems to do the job, and for the price, it is a good buy.

I would suggest that the owner try the factory settings prior to reprograming for additional radar signals. Some area only have K band and laser. So, you in essence have an over kill in signals.

Taux : - This meter could probably be purchased at a more reasonable price, but it does the job. As you peak the dish position, the sensitivity adjustment becomes VERY touchy, going from no indication to full-scale with the slightest tweak of the knob. For those who cannot adjust the dish while staring at a meter, this unit also has an auditory signal (tone) that varies in intensity to indicate progress. The meter dial is lighted, so at a glance you can see relative amplitude of the signal, especially nice if you are outside after dark trying to recover your system from a nasty wind storm!

Taux : - The Meter and the transaction went well. Being a homeowner I hated to have Dish come out for a service call simply to reset the Antenna. This meter was low cost and and a good tool to have. It has a built in light so it is easy to read. I just attached an extra cable I had and it worked quickly.

Taux : - I ordered this to help in installing a new 5 LNB DirecTV dish. What I found is that there are apparently so many satellites up there now that I got lots of indications before finding the proper DirecTV location. The sensitivity of the Meter is too wide to be of any use for other than initial location. I could not do the necessary fine tuning in three dimensions other than the old fashioned way using the TV and as a result several of the HD channels do not come in well. Even at the low cost, it really didn't provide enough assistance to justify the purchase.

Taux : - It works great everywhere I go with great advance alerts with plenty of time for reactions to situations. I've dodged many traps without a problem. Now I've got one in both of my cars. Just make sure it's installed so your hood and windshield wipers don't block the unit's front point of view. "I'm On The Road Again, Eastbound And Down".

Taux : - This was my first radar detector, I got this at a local Best Buy for about $75.00USD more than on Amazon.com (see it pays to shop around). I have never owned a radar detector before so it was really a learning game for me, I installed it, then went out for a test drive.

I drove by a Walgreens and the siren was going off, and the nice lady was yelling "K BAND!" Not knowing at the time it was a false alarm, I slowed down just to realize that there was no Police to be seen. I drove by another Walgreens later that day, and the same false alert went off again. After knowing to ignore it when I drove by local automatic door openers, I took it for the ultimate ride on the highway.

After getting on I-290 West, She was alerting me of an "X BAND", already going 80 mph, I slowed down, and looked around...to my surprise, no Police anywhere to be found. At that point, I diverted my coarse to the same Best Buy that I purchased it from to return it.

Pros: Nice design, easy to read display, clear voice alerts.

Cons: False alerts, short detection range, difficult to quickly dismount.

Overall: This is a nice looking unit that blends in with most modern cars, but lacks the performance of other brands within the same price range.

Laser signals include
LTI 20-20 - short range detection, if detects laser, you have already been clocked
Ultra Lyte - short range detection, if detects laser, you have already been clocked

ProLaser III - short range detection, if detects laser, you have already been clocked

Safety signals include
Safety Alert® - not yet widely implemented - not a frequency used directly for speed enforcement

So you get
- a few short-range radar detection frequencies,
- a few laser detection frequencies (most of the time all too short range to protect you)

Additionally, these units are notorious for giving off interference of their own which can be detected by other radar detectors!

The design is pretty but because of the light color and chrome parts, reflects off the dash. The internal speaker is not loud enough to hear over music or in a noisy environment. The power cord and mounting options make it very conspicuous. The brackets are not known for their durability.

Overall this unit gives a false sense of security, is detectible in states where they're illegal, and has a marginal form factor.

Do your own research before buying units like this - you don't get much more than a pretty package that makes a lot of noise when it shouldn't and not enough noise when it should.

Taux : - As the mousetraps keep improving, so must the mice.
I've been using Passports since the original Escort (Cincinatti Microwave) days. They've never let me down and the new 9500ix appears to be no different.

I've only been using it for a couple of days now, but like the ability to store/silence false alarms. The speed displayed on the display is another nice improvement. I used to automatically go to the brake when the detector went off, don't have to any more.

I have not yet tried to update data on line and have read some of the complaints, but I think it should be simple enough to hook in with my laptop in the car and connect to the network from the car.

Taux : - One of the finest radar detectors I've ever owned! It has very loud audio alerts that you can here over loud music. Lot's of different set-ups and configurations. When it goes off there is usually a cop somewhere close by. Only downfall is lots of x band false alerts but I always have it in highway mode so that might be why. Great feature is the GPS locator. It can be programmed to alert you of known speed traps or speed cameras.

Not sure why you would need to download updates. I've been driving for decades and have owned many radar detectors and have never had a need to download anything. If you do a lot of highway driving I would highly recomend this radar detector. It won't tell you where the cop is hiding like the V1 but who cares? It goes off you slow down plain and simple.

Taux : - Bought this item, and it came with three months of free downloads. These downloads will gave you the latest info. on radar traps, traffic light cameras, etc.

However, after spending $500 on the detector, Escort is too cheap to provide one with a $10 USB cord or a $10 12-volt adapter to download the updates they charge you for after the 3 month trial. Taux : - I bought this item direct from Beltronics online recently. Many don't realize it but the Escort and Beltronics detector lines are owned by the same company now.

I originally purchased a BEL955 from Crutchfield when Beltronics was an independent company based in Canada. That unit got me through some tough times and gave me some good years so when I decided recently to replace it I started my research with the STi model.

It didn't take long to realize that the blocking or "shield" technology was not really useful unless you travel through the few areas that outlaw the use of detectors. The GX line makes extensive use of "smart" technologies that greatly enhance the use of detectors, even if the technology for detection is no better under similar conditions.

I was able to trade-in my older BEL955 for credit against the purchase of the new GX65. I've updated the database a couple of times but what is really useful is the ability to merge the data from my use and local area with the state-by-state updates for light cameras. I never realized how many of these have been deployed now - in places I never suspected before. The more practical use is that the detector remembers where I've muted K-band false alerts - and stores that in a local database on my laptop.

It's expensive, but it's the future for detectors - and tickets are not getting any cheaper. It pays for itself with the first ticket you avoid.

Taux : - First the detector - I recently bought from another retailer (see 'second' point below). It is tremendous. Great functionality, options, design, gives good warning, the GPS tells you your speed when an alert goes off (so you only have to look at the detector to know what you're dealing with and how fast you're going). I primarily bought for the red light camera detection, but it turns out there are none in my area (when I traveled out of state, I found quite a bit), but if you don't have many of the red light cameras in your area, you may want to save a few bucks and get the RX65 (also from Bell). It will save you a couple hundred bucks and (except for the GPS), it's the same detector.

Second - I was looking to buy this detector and it was $469 everywhere. About 2-3 months ago, Amazon changed the price to $429 but said they didn't have any in stock so they'd ship later. I put it in my cart. The price then dropped another $5 over the next few days, but I got caught up and didn't finish the order. I went in a few days later and it was over $470. I wrote customer service who told me what the policy was but never answered the question about how something that's not in stock can have a price change almost daily. Anyway, I didn't order it. A few weeks later they moved the price to $425, so I ordered it. A week or two after that, they said that they wouldn't be able to get it and they cancelled my order and took it down off the site for about 2 or 3 weeks. Now I see it's back. It makes me wonder why my order was cancelled a few short weeks ago.

If you want my 2 cents, it's selling for the same price on the Beltronics site (also with free shipping). Pick it up there and order a couple of accessories (visor clip, extra suction cups for another car, a USB plug which you'll need to update the database, etc.) You'll get more stuff (that you need anyway) bundled in with your free shipping.

Taux : - I have owned several different high end radar detectors over the years and I must say this is by far the best performing radar detector I have ever owned. First it reduces fales alarms to the point where there almost non existent unless you are within feet of a store front. If you hit the mute button 3 times you can even make this go away as the radar detector store the location in its GPS data base. Its long range performance makes it seem almost uncanny at times as it often alerts before you can even see the officer.
The GPS feature will not assist you in navigating anywhere but it will warn you of several different types of speed traps and you can also manually program in speed traps with a couple of simple button presses.
The software update and speed trap updates that can be downloaded off the web are easy to do and keep the unit up to date. I will say the download method is a little bothersome as you have to keep referencing a little green card out of the box with a number on it in order to get a download even after you have registered but its a rather minor annoyance.
I do not know if speed traps that are manually entered into the radar detector get uploaded to Beltronics data base but it seems logical that they would. If such is the case then you get the benefit of the knowledge of others thrown in to the price of this radar detector for a minimal fee.
Lots of people say there is no reason to own one of these except to break the law but I can say for myself its nothing more than a small reminder to check my speed and avoid a ticket that I am not trying to go out of my way to get as a large portion of people do as they go 10, 15, 20 mph over the speed limit. But its a free country.

Taux : - The Beltronics GX65 is the best radar detector that I have ever owned. I have had many over the years including the Valentine V1. Although this is a good detector, the GX65 gives me more warning on the signals that matter as well as not having to worry about listening to it go off for the wrong reason (You tell it what you want to not listen to). The other thing that is great about this detector is the pre-warning it gives when you are approaching a red-light camera. It tells you exactly where these are before it is too late.
Very well built, you can immediately tell you are not buying a product that skimps on material. The GX65 also comes with a very well written owners manual that is easy to understand.
Recommend very highly!!

Taux : - I've driven with the GX65 for several months now and it is without a doubt my favorite dectector and I've owned many! The GPS feature allows me to lock out annoying false alerts, plus the built-in database is preloaded with all the red light and speed camera locations popping up everywhere. These annoying camera locations alert in plenty of time to check things out in advance. $29.95 extra for the 3 year update subscription, which I haven't purchased as yet. Once I've marked all the false alerts on my drive to work, the GX65 is quiet and alerts to just true police radar. I've never driven with such a quiet detector. The unit comes with a very nice case and "Smart" power cord that works like a miniture control panel right on the dash. Highly reccommended!

Taux : - This detector is not a good model. I was expecting more than what I got. It alerts every few seconds to anything. You have to reset the City/Highway mode each time you start it up and it only have audiable alerts that are not discernable, the readout is so small that you cant tell what type of alert you are getting. It has not alerted me to an actual police radar yet.

Taux : - paid under $40 for this radar detector. it has good sensitivity and range and covers all the bands plus laser detection...wny spend more?

Taux : - I read all the reviews I could find on the internet on this product before buying it... Some of them where not that good, but I had some concern about reviewers being sold to one brand vs the other one. I decided to try it out, and has been a great product so far.

PROS:
-Easy to install. Took me a whole 15 minutes to run the wire and install the unit.
-Clean install: No wire on your dash, no device hanging in the middle of your windshield. It's out of the way on top left of my WS, next to the rearview mirror.
-Always on: no need to turn it on or off. Just turn the key, the device starts, and will stop when you get out of the car.
-Discreet: Ok, maybe not that discreet, but it's not in the middle of your dash. AND you do not need the remote to use the device. Once it's programmed, except if you have to make settings change, you do not need the remote!

Cons:

-Range is less than a more expensive unit, but since I am not a "hyperspeeder" It does not bother me.

Notes: Some reviewers mentionned an abysmall range, poor lateral detections, a lot of false alarm: I experienced none of this! Now, one thing, I made sure that my unit was pointing right at the front of the car (my windshield is slightly curved), and was perfectly horizontal.

Conclusion: it's a good device overall, but it's a bargain at that price! If you are lokking for a RD that will be discreet on your dash, that's the one to get.

Taux : - I like the new Cobra XRS R7 because people will not see
your radar or wiring or the display . I do not turn on the remote, you only need the remote to setup the divise. The sharp voice is better than the old models. Remote will not turn on automaticaly, each time you start the car manually you have to hit the power button. The remote battery is very weak. The whole idea is good but, they need to work on their remote.

Taux : - This detector has very good range I can pick a rader gun up to 2 miles away ka X K Ku band.Also other futures that makes great for road travel.

Taux : - This detector is nice because it's remote mounted. It also has a satellite uplink that is supposed to help alert you to photo radar, etc. Unfortunately, it generates false alerts like crazy, even if the detector is in City Mode. I wouldn't buy it again.

Taux : - Anyone that does any research on radar/laser detectors knows two things, a cheap one is worthless, and the Valentine V1 is always listed in as a top 2 detectors. Some people complain that it is over sensitive, but you can just switch it to Advanced Logic Mode (big L on the screen) and it will be quiet enough. This thing is super sensitive on the highway and can give you a solid 2 miles of warning if the officer has the gun on. Arrows help a ton in the city and it will tell you the direct of the strongest signal as well as the other signals simultaneously.

Taux : - Pro: Phenomenal range. Direction arrows. Bogey counter. Actual laser detection, not just a laser-already-got-you signal. These all turn out to be way more useful than you think once you start using it.

Cons: Some LED brake lights now set off false Laser alarms. The markings on the unit are all silkscreened on and can't be read at night. The only way to tell X, K, and Ka from one another at night is by memorizing the different alert sounds. Some folks customize theirs with different color LEDs for each alert. The small volume and mute knobs aren't as good as other detector's solutions.

Not a Pro or a Con: No real false-alarm filtering. It reports everything it sees and lets you decide. It just adjusts how it reports the least-likely signals so they don't bug you as much, and the level and loudness of the alerts is adjustable. Wannabe fighter pilots probably think this is cool. For the rest of us it gets annoying after a while. Where I live, I can just ignore everything except Ka and Laser.

In short, this is really the only unit on the market worth the money. It delivers what you're paying for in spades, and you can live with its ergonomics in return.

As a side note, the reason you'd buy it here at twice the factory price is if you live in a country where the factory doesn't sell/ship. There are a lot of those, apparently. Otherwise, get it factory direct.

Taux : - This radar does everything that I need better than any other radar I've seen or used. Usually gives 3+ seconds of heads up, aside from instant on. The arrows are something that seemed like a novelty but have become a necessity. If you want yourself covered this does exactly that.

Taux : - Combined with a little common sense, as well as just being alert to your surroundings while driving, this radar detector will NOT let you down. I did not get pulled over a single time in 7 years while using my VALENTINE ONE, up until I left it in my other car, and borrowed my brothers other brand radar detector, and got stopped by a state trooper. I could've kicked myself for that!! Also, there's nothing like being able to see which direction the radar is coming from! How many times do we see cops trying to sneak up behind us? With VALENTINE ONE, there's no guessing! The arrows tell you exactly where the radar source is coming from!
Simply the BEST radar detector you can get!

Now, my MAJOR beef!! I LOVE Amazon, and make many purchases on here, as they have terrific value. However, why in God's name are they charging over $700 for this radar detector, when you can buy it directly from VALENTINE ONE for $399??? And on top of that, if your radar detector malfunctions, VALENTINE ONE will not honor the warranty if it wasn't purchased directly from them! Makes no sense!! I almost bought it from here, and just happened to go on the VALENTINE ONE website, and saw it there for almost HALF the price!! Ridiculous!!

Taux : - It really depends on your needs on what radar detector you need to get. I have a Valentine One (V1 for short) and absolutely love it.

My take on higher end RD's: the V1 detects the best and has the arrows (rear antenna). Belscort (BEL+Escort same company) tries to make up for this by adding features, which are pretty cool, but can't use the patented arrows of the V1. So the V1 is great but if you have tons of false alarms in your area (busy city) and can't stand them I would go with the more feature rich Escort 9500 or BEL GX65. And if you live in VA or D.C. (or drive a big rig truck) the BEL Sti Driver is the only way to go. So you can't really go wrong with any Belscort or the V1.

I have asked for 9 parts and has not been reached

Taux : - These are not bad detectors but they just don't hold up. The first one I had gave out after about six months and was replaced under warranty. The second worked about the same length of time and it gave out too. So much for spending a little bit more for something that will last. I'll not buy any more Cobras.

Taux : - I bought this product because the old one was stolen. So far, It's been good, it detects all, the cops as well. The shipping was very fast and secure.
